Biography

I am a native of Southwest Louisiana and grew up spending my summers laying out pages for local newspapers. As my skill set developed, I became interested in the underlying process and structures used to take information from start to print. I attended Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and this curiosity steered me to a Bachelors Degree in Art with a Concentration in Architecture.

After graduating, I worked in the dotCom trenches, billing my life out by the quarter hour for ISP's that were being gobbled up by growing telecoms. During this time, I acquired diverse information design experience by working with ad agencies, political campaigns, hospitals, small businesses, local and state government.

Hurricanes blew me to the River Valley in 2005 and I was taken in by Arkansas Tech University where I now serve as their Director of Web Operations and Strategies. I always tell people that you have to know your resources and use them well when you work at a University. The environment requires you to be creative and use everything you have on hand to construct a distinctive product. But websites are not only marketing venues, they also provide us with access to resources and transparency. Websites can mimic an institution’s structure which gives us an opportunity to think critically about a particular organization or sub-set. I use these traits as a catalyst to facilitate discussion with my colleagues when I develop strategies that relate to the Arkansas Tech Web.

All of this means I have to be a self-starter but I consider myself a “thinker and a doer”, not a “mover and a shaker”. As a Director, I take the initiative to knock on everyone’s door, meeting and collaborating with all sorts of people up and down the chain of command. I rely heavily on my interpersonal, technical and project management skills every day.

In Spring 2013, The Art Department asked me to be a visiting instructor. I feel this has taken my work to the next level and validates my experience at Tech. My industry experience is very hands-on and bring that right into the classroom. I believe that students should be able to gain real-time experience by using our resources and being involved in the inter-workings of the university.

I'm an avid mountain biker and love playing in the woods with my family and friends. I'm also pretty involved with Mainstreet Russellville and Russellville Downtown.
